Pathway Partner Highlight: WSU Tech Builds Dual Credit Pathway

Dual credit partnerships are one way schools are expanding access to aviation maintenance training while creating more direct pathways into A&P certification.

WSU Tech is using this model to introduce high school students to aviation maintenance training while they earn postsecondary credit.

Using the Choose Aerospace curriculum, the program covers foundational topics such as safety, tools, materials, and basic aviation concepts, preparing students to complete the FAA Aviation Maintenance General exam.

For many students, the program serves as a direct pathway into WSU Tech’s Aviation Maintenance Technology program, where they continue toward Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification. Completing the General portion early can reduce both the time and cost required to become certificated.

The model also creates opportunities for early workforce entry, with some students transitioning into entry-level roles while continuing their training. Industry engagement is built in, connecting students with local employers through tours, guest speakers, and hands-on experiences.

Programs like this help students get started earlier and move more efficiently into A&P certification and the workforce.
