ATEC General Aviation Maintenance Credential

In partnership with Choose Aerospace, ATEC facilitates an industry-recognized certification that verifies a student’s knowledge of the general subject areas outlined in the FAA Mechanic Airman Certification Standards.

About the Credential

This credential marks the successful completion of the Choose Aerospace general aviation maintenance curriculum. To earn it, students must complete all twelve Choose Aerospace courses and pass a comprehensive written exam with a score of 75% or higher, demonstrating their mastery of the general knowledge required for FAA mechanic certification.

Purpose and Value

The ATEC credential supports aviation workforce development by:
•    Providing third-party validation of foundational aviation maintenance knowledge.
•    Enhancing employability for high school and adult learners seeking non-certificated technician roles.
•    Enabling credit for prior learning at participating FAA-certificated aviation maintenance technician schools.
•    Supporting secondary and CTE programs with a measurable, standardized outcome that aligns with FAA expectations.

Testing and Proctoring Requirements

To maintain the integrity of the testing process, exams must be proctored by an approved Choose Aerospace program (see the detailed proctoring guide here). ATEC facilitates credential testing sessions throughout the year.
