Choose Aerospace Aviation Maintenance Curriculum

Monday, April 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM (CDT) to Monday, August 3, 2026 at 1:00 AM (CDT)

ATEC Academy now offers a fully online, independent-learning option covering the FAA Mechanic General subject areas through the Choose Aerospace General Aviation Maintenance Curriculum. This flexible, high-quality program provides structured exposure to FAA General knowledge standards outside of a traditional classroom environment. It serves as a preparatory or supplemental pathway for individuals seeking foundational knowledge prior to or alongside formal A&P training at an A&P school or while actively working as an aviation technician.

This program is well suited for:

  • Non-certificated A&P instructors seeking professional development in FAA General subject areas
  • Students seeking a head start or structured preparation before enrolling in A&P school
  • Homeschooled students and highly motivated secondary learners without access to a local A&P school or Choose Aerospace program

Coursework is delivered through the Choose Aerospace Learning Management System and overseen by a fully certificated A&P mechanic who also holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction.

  • Each cohort has fifteen weeks to complete approximately 150 hours of instruction
  • Fully self-paced, with completion time varying based on prior knowledge and learning pace
  • Scheduled professor office hours, no required live class sessions

Optional supplemental opportunities may be available to support hands-on labs or project-based learning via video conference (if the learner has access to appropriate tools and equipment). These experiences reinforce understanding but are not required components of the program.

Completion of the Choose Aerospace Aviation Maintenance Curriculum does not independently qualify an individual to take the FAA General knowledge test. However, participants who successfully complete the curriculum and pass the comprehensive ATEC written examination earn the ATEC General Aviation Maintenance Credential. This credential may be considered for credit at participating FAA-certificated A&P schools, subject to each institution’s policies and eligibility requirements.
