ATEC Webinar Reviews Proposed Updates to the Mechanic ACS

ACS, Webinars,

The ATEC working group continues to advance recommendations for Revision 1 of the FAA Mechanic Airman Certification Standards (ACS). During the latest webinar update, the group shared progress on proposed structural and content changes intended to clarify expectations for entry-level mechanics and improve consistency across training programs and certification testing.

The working group has reviewed every knowledge, risk, and skill element within the current ACS and developed proposed revisions that incorporate competency-based training principles and measurable learning objectives. Updates also align ACS subject areas more closely with aircraft system logic and industry practices to support clearer instruction, assessment, and examiner interpretation.

Another key focus of the revision effort is the introduction of competency domains, which provide a unifying framework across ACS subjects and reinforce essential behaviors such as troubleshooting and technical decision-making, safety and risk management, use of approved data, professionalism, and communication. These domains are intended to guide interpretation of ACS elements without adding new certification requirements.

The working group is preparing to submit its recommendation for ACS Revision 1 to the FAA in April. Any future updates would require FAA review and rulemaking before becoming effective, and training programs will continue aligning curriculum with the current ACS until any changes are formally adopted.
