The Aerospace Maintenance Competition: How it Works and When to Watch

When most people think of aviation, they picture the pilot in the cockpit. But in the industry, we know the aircraft maintenance technician is every bit as vital. Since 2014, the Aerospace Maintenance Council (AMC) has hosted the Aerospace Maintenance Council Competition (The Competition), giving students and professionals a chance to show off their skills, network with industry professionals, and compete for scholarships and prizes.

The Competition brings together teams of working professionals, military personnel, and students from around the globe. Over the course of the event, each team moves through a series of timed stations designed by airlines, manufacturers, repair stations, and other industry leaders, competing against peers in their category.

The tasks mirror the work technicians do every day in the field, like troubleshooting system errors, inspecting components, performing precision measurements, and completing safety checks. Teams are judged not just against the clock, but also on accuracy, adherence to procedure, and teamwork.

Team Categories:

  • Commercial Aviation
  • General Aviation
  • Military
  • MRO
  • Space
  • School

The Competition is anchored by its flagstone event at MRO Americas and, now in its second year, a companion event at VERTICON. VERTICON features three-member teams tackling 8–12 events over the course of a day and a half, while MRO Americas hosts five-member teams competing in 29 events that span two full days.

For competitors, The Competition is about proving skill under pressure and earning recognition on a global stage. For schools, it’s a way to showcase the strength of their programs and build relationships with the companies that help shape the industry and hire their graduates. And for The Council, it’s an opportunity to raise awareness about the vital role maintenance technicians play in aviation safety.
