A&P Schools Dominate the Field at 2025 Aerospace Maintenance Council Competitions

Back-to-back champions were crowned once again as the 2025 Aerospace Maintenance Competition, presented by Snap-on, came to a close at MRO Americas in Atlanta. Tarrant County College repeated as top overall winners in the school category, continuing their legacy of excellence in the annual event.

The weeklong event welcomed 86 teams from around the globe, representing airlines, MROs, military units, and academic institutions. Of those, 41 teams hailed from FAA-certificated part 147 schools, making up nearly half the field—an impressive showcase of student talent and a testament to the growing pipeline of skilled aviation maintenance professionals.

Tarrant County College once again topped the School Category, rising above 40 other academic teams. “We’re very proud and happy,” said Mike

Vitek, Tarrant’s coach. “We did well in several events and were surprised and excited to hear our name called. This win means a lot to the students.”

Beyond Atlanta, students also made a strong showing at the inaugural AMC @ VERTICON Competition, hosted in March in conjunction with Vertical Aviation International’s annual conference in Dallas. Six schools joined the 13-team lineup, competing alongside MRO and general aviation teams across eight events. Utah State University earned top honors as both the event’s Top School and Overall Winner.

Students also walked away with more than medals—numerous cash prizes and scholarships were awarded to support their continued training and professional development. United Airlines presented a $5,000 cash professionalism prize to students on team Aviation Institute of Maintenance – Atlanta. Additional student accolades included the Phoebe Omlie Scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, presented by AMC, American Airlines, TechForce Foundation, Chix Fix, and Aviation Workforce Solutions. The Northrop Rice Foundation, in partnership with organizations like AMXAA and Aventure Aviation, provided multiple written test grants to students from schools across the country.

Snap-on provided all tools and equipment used during both competitions and contributed over $140,000 in prizes. More than 50 sponsors and partners—ranging from airlines to OEMs and trade associations—helped bring the competitions to life. The Council encourages member schools to get involved by fielding a team, sponsoring an event, or volunteering. Team registration sells out quickly and will open in October.
