New Resource to Aid AMTS Requests for Additional Training Locations

ATEC has released a new Request Letter Template to assist part 147 programs in providing the FAA with the information required under 14 CFR 147.15 for approval of an additional training location.

Under the regulation, an AMTS may conduct training at any fixed site beyond its primary location, provided the additional site meets all part 147 requirements and is listed in its operations specifications. The template offers a clear outline for the information FAA inspectors expect to see—including details about facilities, equipment, materials, instructors, and curriculum—and reminds users to customize content to match their own policies and procedures. It also directs schools to key supporting guidance such as AC 147-3C and relevant sections of FAA Order 8900.1.

As highlighted in the Pipeline Report, a growing number of certificated programs are expanding through additional training locations. Since the updated part 147 went into effect in 2022—enabling A&P curriculum delivery at partner facilities, high schools, and other campuses—A&P programs have added 77 new additional training locations to their FAA certificates.

The template is free to ATEC members. Log in to your member account to download it here: https://www.atec-amt.org/store/additional-training-location-request-letter-template
