Miami Dade College (MDC) is one of the most diverse institutions in the U.S., with students from 167 nations speaking 63 languages. Across eight campuses and outreach centers, MDC offers over 300 degree pathways including associate and baccalaureate degrees, certificates, and apprenticeships. Programs span biological sciences, engineering, data analytics, information systems, artificial intelligence—the first in Florida—education, public safety, nursing, physician assistant studies, and film. MDC, a recipient of the Aspen Prize, is known as “Democracy’s College” for its commitment to accessible, high-quality education. It also hosts centers like the Artificial Intelligence Centers, Miami Culinary Institute, MAGIC, Miami Fashion Institute, The Idea Center, Cybersecurity Center, Cloud Computing Center, and New World School of the Arts.
Founded in 1961, MDC’s Eig-Watson School of Aviation is a leader in aviation education in South Florida. It has expanded to include transportation and logistics, preparing students for careers in a dynamic industry. FAA-approved courses combine theory and hands-on training, offering associate degrees and certificates that meet the evolving needs of aviation professionals.
Dr. Simeon Richardson is Dean of Faculty at MDC’s Homestead Campus, where he supports academic programs and faculty development. A Richmond Heights native and Miami Killian graduate, he holds a bachelor’s in Exceptional Student Education and a master’s in Reading and Language Arts from Florida Memorial University, along with certificates in English and American History, and a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Miami. A former professor of English, American History, and literature, he was awarded the 2021 Congresswoman Carrie Meek Endowed Teaching Chair and has led initiatives such as the Honors College, UFMDC, and genocide studies.
