Professional Bio
Ryan Reeves, Ed.D., is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University. His aviation career spans more than two decades and includes professional flight operations, airline flying and instruction, general aviation management, flight training, aircraft maintenance operations, and aviation entrepreneurship.
Reeves began his professional aviation career as a flight instructor before moving into charter operations and airline flying. He later served in leadership roles overseeing flight training, fixed-base operations, aircraft maintenance, and an FAA Part 145 repair station. He subsequently returned to airline operations as a captain and instructor, teaching ground and simulator curricula for new-hire and recurrent airline pilots.
His transition into higher education has focused on applying industry experience to aviation education, mentorship, and workforce development. His teaching and research interests include aviation workforce development, professional career pathways, human factors, aviation education, and the developmental experiences that influence entry into aviation careers. His current research examines when aviation career interests develop and how early exposure may inform long-term approaches to aviation workforce development.
