Professional Bio

Melanie is a Senior Technical Advisor in the FAA Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) Office. She is responsible for collaborating across the FAA Aviation Safety organization to design and execute delegation strategy, including the implementation of the new Airmen Certification ODA type.
Melanie graduated from the Aviation Technology program at Purdue University, where she earned her Airline Transport Pilot, Flight Engineer, and Flight Instructor certificates. After a few years as a flight instructor, Melanie flew for 12 years at a large regional airline where she held positions as Captain, Check Pilot, and Pilot Recruiter.
Melanie joined the FAA as an Aviation Safety Inspector in 2010 and conducted oversight for both General Aviation and Air Carrier Operations. She served on the Aviation Safety Action Program Event Review Committee and was a Principal Operations Inspector overseeing a large part 121 airline and led a project to add the Embraer ERJ-170 to their certificate.
In 2017, Melanie became a manager and led various teams of Aviation Safety Inspectors responsible for the oversight of large part 121 air carriers. Additional leadership experience includes serving in detail assignments as Assistant Manager in the Safety Management System (SMS) program office, Supervisory Principal Operations Inspector and Assistant Office Manager in Air Carrier Safety Assurance Offices.
