Amy Rutledge

Dr. Amy Rutledge is an Assistant Professor of Aviation at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and former air traffic controller. She holds an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from Southeastern University and both a Master's and Bachelor's in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Her research focuses on human factors, mental health and well-being among aviation professionals, workforce development, and aviation safety, with particular emphasis on air traffic controller performance and organizational influences on human performance. She also examines the role of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in aviation education and training, aiming to prepare the future aviation workforce through evidence-based and innovative instructional practices.
