Aviation Technician Education Council Announces Industry-Recognized Credential for Choose Aerospace Students

In a significant step toward standardizing excellence in aviation education, the Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC), in partnership with Choose Aerospace, created the ATEC General Aviation Maintenance Credential. This credential signifies the successful completion of the Choose Aerospace curriculum, culminating in a written knowledge exam where students must achieve a passing grade of 75% or better.

Assessing Mastery in Aviation Maintenance

The industry-recognized credential is designed to validate the credential recipient’s knowledge as set forth in the general subject area of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Mechanic Airman Certification Standards. This comprehensive written knowledge assessment ensures that recipients are well-versed in the general knowledge required for mechanic certification and success in the field as a non-certificated technician.

Proctoring Information for a Secure Testing Environment

Ensuring the integrity of the testing process is paramount. For that reason, the exam must be proctored by an approved Choose Aerospace program. A comprehensive guide details the necessary steps for students to take the test, includes step-by-step information on student registration for the credential exam, and gives proctoring guidelines to guarantee a fair and secure testing environment.

Why Earn the Credential?

Students pursuing the ATEC General Aviation Maintenance Credential stand to gain significant advantages in their early aviation careers. Firstly, the credential enhances employability by making students stand out on applications to aviation employers for non-certificated technician career opportunities. It serves as a tangible demonstration of their commitment to excellence and mastery of essential aviation maintenance technician knowledge.

Secondly, completion of this credential opens doors for participating aviation maintenance schools to offer credit for prior learning or experience. This recognition acknowledges the valuable skills and knowledge students bring to the table, facilitating a smoother pathway towards the completion of a post-secondary award.

What is the Cost for the Credential?

The fee for the ATEC General Aviation Maintenance Credential is $75. A separate account with ASA Prepware must be created for each student prior to attempting the credential exam for $25. Choose Aerospace programs are given a link to access the discounted price directly from ASA or its authorized vendor. The ASA Prepware account is good for up to two years before students anticipate taking the exam, giving ample time to prepare in addition to their Choose Aerospace coursework.
