Professional Bio
Archie Vega serves as director of line maintenance and planning at Horizon Air, leading technical operations across eight maintenance bases, ensuring safe, reliable aircraft maintenance execution throughout the network. Known for developing people and building sustainable programs, Vega has helped strengthen both day-to-day operational performance and long-term workforce readiness.
Before joining Horizon Air in 2017 as senior manager of line maintenance, Vega built a broad aviation maintenance and leadership background across multiple organizations. He held a series of regional and general manager roles in Technical Operations at JetBlue Airways following several years in various roles with United Airlines.
Vega began his aviation journey at age 18 in the United States Marine Corps, where he worked in aircraft-related roles including Power Plant/Line Non Commissioned Officer, laying the foundation for a career focused on technical excellence and operational leadership.
Alongside his operational responsibilities, Vega is deeply engaged in aviation education and community outreach across the Pacific Northwest. He launched Horizon’s Maintenance Technician Development Program to support and mentor aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) students and helped create a pathway for technicians who aspire to move on to Alaska Airlines. He maintains relationships with 15 colleges and universities offering AMT programs, including efforts that helped organize the donation of a Bombardier Q400 aircraft to Portland Community College’s Airframe & Powerplant program.
Vega also supports outreach at the high school level, helps develop paid internships, and serves on advisory boards, career fairs, and industry events that promote aviation education and workforce development. On National AMT Day (May 24), he organizes a multibase bike build that assembles and donates bicycles to underprivileged youth in multiple communities.
