Associate Dean, Transportation Programs, Broward College

Job Profile Summary
 
The Associate Dean of Transportation Programs, is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the overall departmental operations in accordance with federal/state regulations, college policies, procedures, contractual agreements, and college/campus strategic planning goals and objectives. Under the general direction of the Dean for IMCT Pathways, the Associate Dean for Transportation Programs will provide academic and administrative leadership and oversight for targeted programs, including Supply Chain Management, Automotive Technology, Marine Engineering Management, Aviation Maintenance, and other programs as assigned. The preferred candidate will have significant experience in a transportation-related field, with a focus on transportation and logistics.
The Associate Dean will also be responsible for developing and responding to workforce and economic development opportunities and developing partnerships and collaborations with business and industry, education, government, and the community.
The Associate Dean will also be responsible for the comprehensive administration and coordination of operational matters related to student learning, instruction, curriculum development and revision of academic/workforce programs and related courses, course scheduling, program advising, transfer articulation agreements, resolving student behavioral matters, addressing and resolving personnel (faculty and staff) needs and issues, using student learning outcomes data to promote continuous quality improvement, and managing budgetary and financial assets related to the academic departments. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of project management and will clearly demonstrate their ability to develop, implement, and manage strategic planning activities. Equally important, the associate dean will be expected to provide college/campus leadership and policy advice on matters related to all teaching and academic support services which include courses within baccalaureate degrees, associate in arts, associate in science, and associate in applied science degree programs as well as vocational and technical certificate programs. The Associate Dean will also serve on program advisory boards, collaborate with community, workforce investment boards, and employers to support academic/workforce education initiatives and projects. Performs other duties as assigned.
  
Minimum Education:
  • Master's degree in a related technical field, management, or business. Doctoral degree preferred.
 
Minimum Experience/Training:
  • Requires 3 years teaching experience at the postsecondary level, with a history of demonstrated leadership roles in educational settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication, financial management and budget design skills
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for some
 
Minimum Certification/Licenses:
  • Industry certificate or license in a related field a plus but not necessary.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Monthly- 20%: Manages and/or assists in the creation and implementation of a plan to recruit students, including an analysis of plan effectiveness.  Serves as the academic administrator in a leadership capacity reporting to the Dean with the responsibility of overall department operations in accordance with college policies, procedures and contractual agreements, and in support of the overall plan of the college.
  • Daily -10%: Provides leadership and management to faculty, adjunct and staff. Responsible for setting performance standards, coaching and evaluating staff, organizing and scheduling workloads and flow.
  • Daily -10%: Responsible for the protection and safe-keeping of confidential data acquired during the course of work.
  • Weekly -5%: Assists with the preparation of the budget and approves payroll for faculty, full-time staff and part-time staff including scheduling work assignments and authorizing leave. Manages, analyzes and evaluates departmental budget and ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial and associated accounting records.
  • Weekly -20%: Manages multiple discipline/departments or multiple units within a division.
  • Quarterly -5%: Works directly with contractual provisions, interpreting contract language and working with faculty to ensure contract provisions are met.
  • Quarterly -5%: Demonstrates creativity in developing marketing materials for surrounding business and community.
  • Daily -5%: Work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and students of diverse ethnic and education backgrounds and with various segments of the college community.
  • Daily -5%: Demonstrates a genuine commitment to student success by creating a supportive environment for staff and students.
  • Weekly -5%: Compiles data and prepares accurate reports.
  • Weekly -5%: Provides direction, plans, organizes and evaluates the work of others. Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, staff development and training.
  • Monthly -5%: Establishes successful partnerships with academic units and other constituents.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Leadership and managerial skills to direct career and technical educational programs to ensure student objectives and program goals are met
  • A strong understanding of budgetary management skills for cost control and efficient operation of the department
  • Organizational skills to maintain consistency for the day to day operation of the departments
  • Team building skills to collaborate an effective team to ensure quality educational outcomes
  • Good communication skills in writing and verbal delivery to include public speaking
  • Models inclusive excellence through specific actions that support the College’s diversity goals in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of talented and diverse faculty and staff
  • Oversees and coordinates professional development plans, management and evaluation, and submits appropriate recommendations of personnel actions
  • May manage multiple discipline/departments or multiple units within a division
  • Works directly with contractual provisions, interpreting contract language and working with faculty to ensure contract provisions are met
  • Develops and manages the academic, student or business department’s budget(s)
  • Has full responsibility for multiple academic disciplines, units or departments
