ATEC Submits Comments on Draft Order 8900.2A "General Aviation Airman Designee Handbook"11/14/2014 On Friday, Nov. 14, the Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC) submitted comments to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding draft Order 8900.2A “General Aviation Airman Designee Handbook.”
Specifically, the council objected to the removal of provisions that allowed designees to obtain waivers to give oral and/or practical (O&P) tests to two students at a time when there is a valid need. The comments raise concerns about the increased costs and time associated with the total prohibition on testing more than one student while acknowledging forthcoming changes to O&P testing procedures. ATEC requested that the FAA delay these provisions until the implementation of the new randomly-generated testing process, which seek to cut overall testing time in half.
