The
Process
Once
a vacancy is determined (either a new position is approved or a retirement is
accepted), a vacancy notice is prepared describing the position, the salary, and
benefit package. The announcement is mailed out and circulated within the
District for posting. Advertisements are placed in local and national
periodicals relevant to the subject area. Additionally, the position is listed
on the web page. As the position is advertised, the department sets up a
screening committee comprised primarily of faculty members from the subject
area, the administrator over the area and a Diversity Committee representative.
Because committee members must arrange committee duties around their regular
responsibilities, it generally takes several weeks to go through the entire
process.
All applicants must either
contact the Human Resources Office, apply on-line or request from our website an
applicant packet which will include the vacancy announcement, application forms,
and information explaining the paperwork needed by the filing deadline.
Postmarks are NOT acceptable. Faxes are acceptable, however, we cannot be held
responsible for equipment and/or fax line failure.
The following materials must be
received by the filing deadline indicated on the job
announcement:
Applications will be checked to
determine if all necessary paperwork has been submitted. Applicant files will be
screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated
in the job announcement. Those files that have incomplete paperwork and/or do
not meet minimum qualifications will not be considered for employment. As the
selection committee eliminates applicants from consideration and returns their
files to the Human Resources Department, letters are sent out informing them
that they are no longer being considered. From the applicants who meet the basic
qualifications, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet
the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to
interview. Interviewees may be asked to conduct a short teaching
demonstration.
The selection committee will
rate responses to the interview questions and the teaching demonstration (if
applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected
as the “recommended candidates”. A hiring recommendation will be made by the
College President or Vice Chancellor and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of
State Center Community College District for final
approval.
Note to current SCCCD
employees:
Please
be aware that materials from your personnel file are not included as part of the
application file. You must contact Human Resources to request copies of
materials in your employment or previous applicant file. Your paperwork can be
copied one time only.
